Feeling stuck? Have you tried counseling or medications but are still struggling?

The Neurotherapy Center of St. Louis is dedicated to the practice of helping people move towards optimal functioning in their lives and achieve their potential. Neurotherapy or neurofeedback is a specialized tool to help the brain shift towards regulation and better functioning. Just like habits and behaviors can remain fixed, your brain can get "stuck" in an inefficient patterns. Neurofeedback or neurotherapy can facilitate changing these patterns and develop healthier brain function. This can help you achieve symptom relief as well as a improved sense of well-being.

Ashley has a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medical Family Therapy. She has a Master’s of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Missouri and is Board Certified in Neurofeedback (BCN) through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA).

Experience: Ashley has 12 years of clinical experience and 9 years of experience in biofeedback, qEEG (quantitative electroencephalography), and neurofeedback (also called EEG biofeedback or neurotherapy). She has experience in many diverse therapeutic settings. Her experience includes a university counseling center, hospital in-patient setting, residential treatment center, community counseling agency, non-profit counseling agency, and private practice.

Approach: Ashley works from a systemic perspective. She uses her understanding of the brain, physiology, and family systems to guide her therapeutic approach. As a therapist, she looks at the interplay of biological systems within the individual, the systems surrounding the individual, the context of symptoms, and the strengths of the individual when working towards treatment goals in collaboration with the client.

Ashley uses qEEG technology to provide a comprehensive brain map showing areas of dysregulation. This assessment finds underlying EEG (brainwave) biomarkers related to the client’s concerns and is used to design an individualized treatment protocol.  She then uses neurofeedback to address the deviations found in the qEEG evaluation and help shift symptom-related patterns in the brain. As these deviations normalize through treatment, clients typically achieve symptom reduction and improved mental and emotional health. She also uses biofeedback to address stress and anxiety-related symptoms in the body by looking at heart rate variability and breathing rate . Both treatment modalities enhance self-awareness and improve self-regulation. These treatments can also be used to improve cognitive and professional performance including the musical arts, theater, and athletics. Ashley believes therapy should be practical in helping you achieving your life goals. She believes an understanding of the brain enhances one’s capacity for accessing change and personal growth.

Ashley works with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. She has experience providing treatment for individuals with chronic stress, anxiety/PTSD, ADD/ADHD, depression, headaches, past concussions, Asperger's, and peak performance. She also works with individuals working through religious stress or religious abuse and LGBT individuals.
